"Reliable sensors and measurements – fundamentals for the digital
transformation"
The 2025 Sensor and Measurement Science International (SMSI) Conference will be held in mutually beneficial conjunction with the leading international trade fair SENSOR+TEST, predominantly focusing on sensor technology and metrological instrumentation. With this approach, a unique platform has been established serving best the needs of the scientific community and industry.
As the only major international sensor and metrology conference, SMSI brings together intelligent sensor technology and instrumentation, digitalization-oriented measurement science with cognitive features as well as modern quantum technology-based metrology including the secure digital exchange of certificates. This basic idea was already successfully demonstrated with the SMSI 2023 hosting more than 170 presentations from leading experts and scientists from all over the world.
We cordially invite you to join us in May 2025 in Nuremberg. Benefit from networking in a meeting in presence, share your knowledge and expertise in discussions with your peers and contribute to the stimulating atmosphere of the event.
Please find here a first set of information and do not hesitate to contact us for further details.
Grand Challenges & Scope
Efficient and metrologically correct measurements as well as the transmission and intelligent valuation and interpretation of measurement information are vital prerequisites for many applications. Among others, challenges are the digital transformation with increasing networking and virtual representation of real and information systems, flexible automation, high precision and high resolution climate-change observation, conversion of our economies to renewable energies and ensuring our civil security and defense capabilities. In this context, measurement and sensor technology is increasingly becoming an integral part of an IoT-networked world.
In addition to the networking of sensor systems and the digitization of metrology itself, cognitive capabilities of metrology, quantum metrology and quantum sensor technology as well as virtual representations, so-called digital twins, are playing an increasingly important role. All these grand challenges are addressed by the 2025 SMSI.

Target Audience
The SMSI Conference is aiming equally at developers and decision-makers in industry as well as professionals at universities and at research institutes. We pay special attention to the active participation of young scientists from all areas of metrology, sensors technology, and applications. For this group of participants, we have integrated the format of the Science Slam and offer chances for personal contact with potential, attractive employers to stimulate a successful professional career. Furthermore, we will organize a meeting with Ulrich Schmid, the Chief Editor of the Journal of Sensors and Sensor Systems giving the opportunity for young scientists to discuss “DOs and DONTs” in publishing.
We would like to draw the special attention of our international guests in particular to the attractive accompanying program in the Franconian area and the traditional old city of Nuremberg.
